Kobe goes off for 81

January 23, 2006

In a game where the Lakers at one point were trailing by 14 in the 2nd half, the man who leads the league in scoring put on a clinic that won’t be seen for quite some time if ever again. Scoring 55 points in the 2nd half, he set a career high, a franchise high and is the 2nd highest scoring player only to Wilt Chamberlin who in one game scored 100.

Say what you will about his off court behavior in years past, his ability to lead perhaps one of the most untalented teams in the league to a winning record and potential playoff berth, the guy can flat out score like no other. Perhaps 46 shots may seem a bit selfish. However, better than 60% of those fell through the hoop and his team took home the W.

Those of you who know me, will continue to hate me on the subject of Kobe Bryant. I idolize the man for his athleticism and uncanny ability to make shot after shot after shot. He’s no Tim Duncan if that’s the style you want me to like. But who in the hell wants to be the most boring player to watch play one of the most exciting games. Admire the man for what he does and not for how the media perceives him to be.
